What’s a howlie? Howlie is an Hawaiian term used to refer to someone who is not a native, i.e., a foreigner. We here at Kahuna Content love digital howlies. We’re adept at taking a digital howlie and turning that person into a kama’aina, or simply a native, a digital native at that.
Now, of course, a foreigner can never truly be turned into a native of anything. But we can get close, and convert that digital howlie into a naturalized digital citizen.
If you’re at a company considering using social media, don’t be overly concerned about capturing those digital natives. They may be important, depending upon your company’s overall strategy. But realize this. There are far more naturalized digital citizens out there than digital natives. You’ve got to have both. Both as customers and as social media staff. Each side of the divide must be covered so that interests of both are fulfilled.
That’s essential to a good social media program.
So, all you digital howlies out there. Despair not. There is hope.
